Our Mission

At Dimobi Women's Trust we care and understand because we’ve been there.  Many of our volunteers are lived experience domestic abuse survivors and we understand how abuse can affect anyone at any time.

We aim to provide a safe, women-only space for parents and carers of disabled children. We help all women and their children, regardless of age, disability, gender, marital status, race, belief, or sexuality.

Dimobi Women's Trust objectives

  • To offer free early intervention and prevention help
  • To provide practical domestic abuse support
  • To provide emotional and wellbeing support
  • To value every woman’s right to live their life free from violence, abuse, and discrimination
  • To challenge inequality and empower women to enjoy lives that are safer, fairer, and healthier
  • To provide awareness workshops and training sessions to women who use our service
  • To highlight inequality and disadvantage among women who have a disabled child
  • To work in partnership with other organisations and networks to raise awareness of our work and influence local and national policy on behalf of our women.

Supporting disabled children, young people and their families

According to the UK government, there are 620,000 families with disabled children in the UK in 2020, and more than 100 children are born or diagnosed with a disability every day. With a population of 78,428 people, North Manchester has some of the worst health outcomes in the country.

Through our Dimobi Children Disability Trust Charity, we work closely with families of disabled children to make a positive impact on their lives. We drive for innovation and challenge disadvantage and inequality to help our families with the barriers they face. Our vision is to achieve a society in which children with disabilities contribute, are valued, and have their rights respected.

Neurodiversity and Health and Social Care

The latest Manchester Neighbourhood Mosaic profile report illustrates that around 90% of Miles Platting and Newton Heath’s 7,180 households are likely to require high or very high levels of health and social care support. Our charity supports a wide range of families with neurodiversity health condition needs.

Neurodiversity encompasses a variety of neurological conditions, such as:

Neurodiversity and Health and Social Care

  • Autism

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Dyslexia

  • Dyspraxia

  • Dyscalculia

  • Specific Language Impairment

Special Education Needs

Additionally, many children and young people who have Special Education Needs may have a disability under the Equality Act 2010. According to this legislation, a child or young person has Special Educational Needs if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.

Dimobi Children Disability Trust works with children and young people up to 25 years of age. A child or young person of compulsory school age is said to have SEN if they:

Special Education Needs

  • Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age.

  • Have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.
